Round 3 of the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches arrives with a sense of urgency as the field attempts to position itself for a Sunday charge at the treacherous PGA National Champion Course. The "Bear Trap"—the daunting stretch from holes 15 to 17—remains the ultimate equalizer, ready to derail any scorecard with its narrow targets and water hazards.

The focus is squarely on Austin Smotherman, who carries a three-shot cushion into the weekend after a brilliant display of ball-striking over the first two days. However, the chasing pack is loaded with experience. Major champion Shane Lowry, a frequent contender in South Florida, looks to use his creative shot-making to close the gap, while Taylor Moore and Nico Echavarria aim to keep the pressure high. With thunderstorms in the forecast and tee times moved up to the early morning to avoid the weather, the players will face a cooler, softer course that could yield lower scores for those brave enough to attack the pins.

Result Description
Shane Lowry delivered the "Moving Day" performance of the season, firing a spectacular bogey-free 8-under 63 to storm into a share of the lead. Lowry was nearly perfect from tee to green, dismantling the Champion Course with eight birdies—including a clutch five-foot putt on the 18th—to reach 13-under par. His round tied Patton Kizzire for the lowest of the day and erased the three-shot deficit he faced at the start of the morning.

Austin Smotherman, the leader through the first two rounds, showed incredible resilience to maintain his share of the top spot. After stumbling with back-to-back bogeys on the 6th and 7th holes, Smotherman refocused and finished his round with consecutive birdies on 17 and 18 to card a 2-under 69. The leaderboard remains tightly packed heading into the finale; Nico Echavarria and Taylor Moore sit just one stroke back at 12-under, while Jimmy Stanger remains in the hunt at 11-under. Brooks Koepka also made a significant move, shooting a 66 to climb into the top 20, though he remains ten shots back of the co-leaders.
