The second round of the 2026 Magical Kenya Open took place on Friday, February 20, with the field taking full advantage of the thin air and pristine conditions at Karen Country Club. Following a competitive opening day, the narrative in Nairobi shifted toward a fierce battle for the lead between a rising South African star and a consistent French challenger. With the cut line looming, the afternoon featured plenty of drama as players fought to secure their place for the weekend at one of the DP World Tour’s most unique venues.
Reports Result ListResult DescriptionSouth Africa’s Casey Jarvis and France’s Frederic Lacroix ended the day in a share of the lead at 13-under-par. Jarvis followed his opening 62 with a steady 65, bringing his total birdie count to 17 over the first 36 holes. He was joined at the top by Lacroix, who fired a flawless, bogey-free 62—the low round of the day—to vault himself into the co-lead. Both players are hunting for their breakthrough maiden titles on the DP World Tour.
The day's biggest move came from Hennie du Plessis, who carded a blistering 9-under-par 61. His round included a spectacular run of birdies that saw him climb into a tie for third at 11-under-par, alongside Angel Ayora and Ricardo Gouveia. Ayora, a 21-year-old Spanish prospect, continued to impress the galleries with his aggressive driving, maintaining his position near the top with a second consecutive 65.
The most electric moment of the day belonged to Kenya’s Njoroge Kibugu. Playing as the final local hope to make the cut, Kibugu arrived at the par-5 18th hole needing a birdie to stay for the weekend. To the delight of the massive home crowd, he struck a brilliant approach shot to within four feet and drained the eagle putt. His dramatic finish ensured he would be the lone Kenyan representative in the field for the final two rounds.
The tournament also saw a piece of DP World Tour history as Celestin Nsazuwera became the first player from Rwanda to compete in the series. Although he missed the cut by just two strokes after posting back-to-back rounds of 69, his appearance marked Rwanda as the 117th country to be represented in the tour's history.
