Description

The 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony will be held at 19:00 UTC (20:00 CET) on 6 February 2026 at San Siro in Milan, Italy. As mandated by the Olympic Charter, the proceedings will include an artistic program showcasing the culture of the host country and city, the parade of athletes and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron.

The Games will be formally opened by the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella. This is set to be the first Winter Olympics and first Olympic Games opening ceremony under the IOC presidency of Kirsty Coventry. The edition commemorates the seventeenth anniversary of the 1956 Winter Olympics, the twentieth anniversary of the 2006 Winter Olympics, and the eightieth anniversary of the Italian Republic.
