Is the API open source? Can we contribute to it?
I've used it a bit, and it doesn't seem to follow best practices.
Of course, it works, but it could be so much easier to use for developers.

Anyone can contribute to the website which in turns feeds the API.

But maybe I have misunderstood your question.

Its not open source exactly, but I am willing to hear all view points.

I know V1 is not perfect and V2 is currently in design phase.

One thing I have always tried to do is keep the simplicity for easy first time use. But yeh V2 is currently taking feature requests, you can see the plan here on our roadmap.

Let me know if you have any comments.

Well, I'm thinking about REST architecture. I agree, the API is not hard to use, but it's not standard at all.
Also, it would be amazing to have a clean API documentation rather than just links and labels on a page without possibility to make tests requests.

api/v2/teams
api/v2/players

Great yes this will be my aim for the V2 design.
