Description
Extreme Rules (2015) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by WWE. It took place on April 26, 2015 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. It is the seventh event under the Extreme Rules chronology, and was available for free for the new subscribers on WWE's monthly subscription service, the WWE Network within over 140 countries.

At WrestleMania 31, John Cena defeated Rusev to win the United States Championship, marking Rusev's first defeat since being promoted to the main roster. On the March 30 episode of Raw, Cena has announced that he will begin a weekly open challenge, which anyone on the roster will be allowed to face him for the title. On the April 2 episode of SmackDown, Rusev invoked his rematch clause to face Cena for the title at the event. On the April 13 episode of Raw, after Cena retained his title against Bad News Barrett, Rusev attacked Cena with a chain, and then Lana has announced the match between Cena and Rusev will be a Russian Chain match.

At WrestleMania 31, Daniel Bryan won the 7-man ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship. On the March 30 episode of Raw, previous champion Bad News Barrett attacked Bryan after Bryan retained his title against Dolph Ziggler. On the April 2 episode of SmackDown, Barrett attacked Bryan during his match against Sheamus, causing Sheamus to win by countout. On the April 6 episode of Raw, Barrett invoked his rematch clause on the WWE App to face Bryan for the title at the event. On April 26, it was announced on WWE.com that Bryan was unable to compete at the event, due to his injury, but also announced that Barrett would be facing Neville on the Extreme Rules pre-show.

At WrestleMania 31, Randy Orton defeated Seth Rollins. During the main event, Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract during the scheduled WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns and pinned Reigns to win his first WWE World Heavyweight title. On the April 6 episode of Raw, Orton defeated Ryback and Reigns in a triple threat match to face Rollins for the title at the event. On the April 13 episode of Raw, Orton defeated Tyson Kidd and Cesaro in a Handicap match to earn the right to choose a stipulation, while Rollins defeated Kane to also earn the right to choose a stipulation. Rollins chose to ban Orton's finisher, the RKO, while Orton has announced the match will be a Steel Cage match. On the April 20 episode of Raw, Triple H announced that Kane will be the gatekeeper to the cage for this match at the event.

On the March 30 episode of Raw, Sheamus returned from injury, appearing to saved both Bryan and Ziggler from the attack by Bad News Barrett, instead attacked both Bryan and Ziggler, turning heel in the process. On the April 13 episode of Raw, Sheamus attacked Ziggler after Ziggler defeated Neville. On the April 16 episode of SmackDown, Sheamus has announced that he will be face Ziggler in a Kiss Me Arse match at the event.

On the April 2 episode of SmackDown, Dean Ambrose fought Luke Harper to a no contest, after Harper powerbombed Ambrose through the announcers table. On the April 13 episode of Raw, Ambrose attacked Harper after Harper lost to Ryback by disqualification. On the April 20 episode of Raw, Ambrose and Harper once again fought to a no contest. Later that night, it was announced that Ambrose will be facing Harper in a Chicago Street Fight at the event.

On the April 6 episode of Raw, Big Show attacked Reigns during his triple threat match against Orton and Ryback. On the April 13 episode of Raw, after Reigns's interview has ended, Big Show attacked Reigns and chokeslammed him on a roof of a taxicab. On the April 16 episode of SmackDown, Big Show has announced that he will be facing Reigns in a Last Man Standing match at the event.

On the April 13 episode of Raw, Paige won a battle royal by last eliminating Naomi to earn a title shot against Divas Champion Nikki Bella at Extreme Rules. After the match, Naomi turned heel by attacking Paige, who suffered a storyline injury and was later deemed unable to compete at the event. Thus, Naomi replaced Paige as the title challenger for the pay-per-view event.

On the April 20 episode of Raw, The New Day defeated The Lucha Dragons by countout to earn a WWE Tag Team Championship match against champions Tyson Kidd and Cesaro at the event.
