Jacob Joseph Arrieta (born March 6, 1986) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, and San Diego Padres.
He won the 2015 National League Cy Young Award, and was an NL All Star in 2016.
The Orioles selected Arrieta in the fifth round of the 2007 MLB draft, and he made his big league debut for them in 2010. The Orioles traded Arrieta to the Cubs in 2013. In his 2015 Cy Young-winning season, he was the MLB wins leader with 22, and pitched a no-hitter; his 0.75 second-half earned run average (ERA) set an all-time major league record for lowest ERA after the All-Star Break. Arrieta threw his second no-hitter in 2016, and won a Silver Slugger Award that year. On March 12, 2018, he signed as a free agent with the Phillies.
Arrieta made his MLB debut June 10, 2010, for the Baltimore Orioles.
