<plot>The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix is a motorcycling event that is part of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. From 1997 to the present day, it is run at the scenic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit south of Melbourne, Victoria. Prior to 1997 the event was held at a number of different venues, the first two Australian GPs ever held were at Phillip Island, and the premier class races in both those years was won by home rider Wayne Gardner. The Australian GP was then held at Eastern Creek for six successive years from 1991 to 1996, before returning to Phillip Island in 1997 where it has since remained.

The 2018 Australian motorcycle Grand Prix was the seventeenth round of the 2018 MotoGP season. It was held at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Phillip Island on 28 October 2018.

Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) ended Yamaha’s 26-race MotoGP winless streak with a solid victory at the Michelin Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island Circuit. Viñales’ convincing win also ended a personal run of 29 races without a victory. Pre-race favorite Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) won a tough battle for second over Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team).
Pole man and 2018 MotoGP World Champion Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) was involved in a high-speed collision early with Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and was forced to retire due to extensive damage to Márquez’ motorcycle.</plot>
