It was the thirteenth round of the 2004 FIA Formula One World Championship. Michael Schumacher of Scuderia Ferrari took pole position for the race and went on to take the race win ahead of teammate Rubens Barrichello and Fernando Alonso of Renault. It was Schumacher's twelfth win of the season and his seventh in succession, equalling Alberto Ascari's record.
