Three years after recovering from Legionnaires' disease, Sara Groenewegen started on the mound for Canada and retired the first six Mexican batters. In the third inning, Salling added to Canada's lead with a solo home run to right field. In the fourth, Hayward singled again, stole second, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a Kelsey Harshman single to make it 4–0 Canada.
