What is the rationale behind requiring a banner size of 1000x185? I believe most other sites like tvdb require a banner size of 758x140.

This size is currently the standard around the web for movies and TV-shows. Here you can see an example: https://fanart.tv/movie/156717/death-race-inferno/

Yep we follow the latest Fanart.tv size resolutions.
