Description
The Senior Players Championship (known as the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship for sponsorship reasons) is one of the five major championships on golf's PGA Tour Champions. The inaugural event was played 37 years ago in 1983 and the age minimum is 50, the standard for men's senior professional golf tournaments. The winner gains entry into the following season's Players Championship on the PGA Tour.
Unlike the U.S. Senior Open, the Senior PGA Championship, and the Senior Open Championship, it is not recognized as a major by the European Senior Tour, and is not part of that tour's schedule.
From 2019 to 2022, the Senior Players championship will be held at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio to replace the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational that is moving to Memphis, Tennessee.
The event takes place Jun 24-27 and has a prize fund of $3,000,000.
The 2021 Bridgestone Senior Players Championship final leaderboard is headed by winner Steve Stricker, who earned the PGA Tour Champions major win at Firestone Country Club's South Course in Akron, Ohio.
The Wisconsin native dominated for a six-shot win over last week's winner and defending champion Jerry Kelly, pulling away in the 72-hole event at 7-under 273.
Kelly was the only other player to finish under par, with Fred Couples and David Toms finishing tied for third at even par.
